**Notice regarding Pan Am Games and World Championships as qualifying events for the 2012 Olympic Games**

2/7/11 - While carefully reviewing the international qualifying totals previously listed on this web-site, we discovered a number of errors. These ranged from calculation errors to errors made in following the methodologies described for calculating the totals. The errors have been corrected and the revised projected placement totals are listed below. An announcement and explanation of the errors and calculation methodologies for totals can be found here.
The totals from multiple competitions were averaged as described in the calculations of that competition (e.g., for the World Championships, an average of the 2007 & 2010 World Championships, 1st – 25th place was used). However, in some categories, if less than the designated number of places existed in the results being used from a given year, averages yielded non-descending results. To correct this problem, the averages were taken from highest to lowest. For example, had there been only 20 athletes in the 63 kg category at the 2007 World Championships and 18 athletes in 2010, the averages may have yielded something to the effect of: 17th is 180 kg, 18th is 175 kg, and 19th is 185 kg. These numbers would have then been adjusted to read: 17th is 185 kg, 18th is 180kg, and 19th is 175 kg.
If less than the designated number of places existed for the adjusted averages, the remaining places were projected by further reductions of 1 kg per place, beginning after the last averaged placement. For example, if 100 kg was the last available average at 15th place, then 16th is 99 kg, 17th is 98 kg, and so on down to the required number of placements.
