Bid Information
The bid process for USA Weightlifting's championship events is currently as follows:
- Bids will be awarded for each championship event at the previous year's event. With the exception of the Olympic year, each championship event is generally held on the same weekend each year, within a 3-week window. See Weightlifting at a Glance (below) for more information.
- Bid cities must have a written letter of support from the Local Weightlifting Committee, who will provide the technical support for the event.
- Bid applications are submitted to the National Office by a published deadline. The deadline for bids for the 2010 National Junior Championships, 2010 National Collegiate Championships, 2010 National Championships and the 2010 National School Age Championships, is May 22, 2009. The deadline for bids for the 2010 American Open Championships is November 13, 2009.
- Appropriate bid materials will be posted to USA Weightlifting's website for review by the membership and input to the Competition Committee.
- Based on input from the membership, the Competition Committee will make recommendation to the Board of Directors for the final award of the event, which will be announced at the current year's event.
Bids for the 2010 National Junior Championships will be awarded at the June 4-7 2009 National Championships in Chicago. No bids were submitted for the 2010 National Championships or 2010 Collegiate National Championships. Further plans for these events will be considered by the Competition Committee and the Board of Directors.
The bid for the 2010 National School Age Championships is currently scheduled to be awarded at the June 19-21 National School Age Championships.
The application deadline for hosting the 2010 American Open Championships is November 13, 2009. The event will be awarded at the 2009 American Open Championships in Mobile, Alabama, December 11-13.
