Proposed Bylaws and Information Regarding LWCs

USA Weightlifting September 16, 2008

10/16/08 - Note from the Governance Reform Committee:

To the Members of USAW:  There has been concern over the perceived stance that the USOC has taken in regards to the Local Weightlifting Committees. The USOC would like to make it perfectly clear that it has no intention or desire to limit the involvement of the LWCs as it relates to USAW. The Governance Reform Committee through their work had determined that the role of the LWCs should be defined in the USAW's rule book not in their bylaws. The new Board and Management of USAW should be the body that determines the extent and degree of activity that the LWCs will be responsible for under the new structure if the "Proposed Bylaws" are adopted and ratified. For any further clarification, please contact Tommie Gipson either by phone or email at 719-866-2225 or Tommie.Gipson@USOC.ORG.

9/16/08 - On behalf of USA Weightlifting's (USAW) Governance Reform Committee, we are pleased to post the new proposed USAW Bylaws.  These Bylaws were drafted over the last several months taking into consideration comments from nearly every aspect of USAW's membership.  We believe these Bylaws represent a fair and appropriate balance of current USAW policies as well as best practices in non-profit governance.  If approved and implemented, we believe these Bylaws will position USAW to be a more efficient and effective organization in support of all USAW members.

Per our current rules, the proposed by-laws will be posted on the USA Weightlifting website for thirty (30) days, with a ballot to follow.  Ballots will be sent to the Board of Governor delegates and athlete reps, as credentialed for the March 3,2008 Board of Governors' meeting in Columbus, Ohio.  Delegates and athlete reps must be current USA Weightlifting members in order to receive a ballot.
