Just got done talking to Sarah Davis... She was great! Will be in my wrapup later, but for those looking for a preview, here's what she had to say...
On her performance...
"I'm super excited about how I did today after not doing as well at the Worlds as I wanted. I knew my training had been going so well before the Worlds and I wanted to come here and do the lifts I knew I could do."
On why she chose to compete at the American Open...
"Well, first, it was only a six hour drive and, second, this would be the first time in my career that I won all the national events in the same year. I just wanted to have a good time here. There was a lot more pressure at Worlds, but I wasn't nervous here. I felt good and it showed."
On her expectations for the future...
"I definitely want to improve my total. I think there's a lot more weight out there that I can reach."
On the Worlds...
"Going into the Worlds I was excited to have made the team, but I thought the other girls would be so much better than I was and I got nervous, but then I realized that I was good enough to be there on the platform with everyone else. I don't think I proved that there, but I know that I can be a lot more competitive."
On next year...
"I want to compete at the Pan Ams and go back to the Worlds and I think I can do a lot better next year."
1:41 p.m.

Jo Arnold drops her first c&j, goes for 77kg on the second. Loving the pigtails! And it's good. Sally... think I have pix of Breanne... going through 53s now from the snatch. I added some more pix of the 48 girls and think everyone should be in there. Quick shout out, btw to Steve Fauer the photog whose pix are fabulous.

Cortney has no problems with 60kg either. Sara Cowles opens up with an easy 61kg.
Cortney no lifts on 62kg.
Danielle Durante is on her third attempt... dropped her first two and needs her 62kg to stay in it.
Danielle's attempt is good and she's happy!
John... yes, I talked to the secretary earlier and am going to pop totals and the like up too. Went to go interview Rachel (who's super nice, btw) and got back from the warm up area late, but they'll be up soon.
11:41 a.m.
Hometown girl Cortney Batchelor is up... 57 was no problem on her first attempt. Wonder what it's like to compete at home... Is it nice because no travel and all that, not to mention your family being there or bad for any of the same reasons? I've heard both...

On to the 53kg division... Beth Terranova finished 3-3 with a final snatch of 55kg. Jacque Payne just lifted 55 too. Jerri Pugh's up for her third and final attempt at 55. Will she make it? That'd be a yes ... majority decision.

48 final medalist... Rachel Churchward gold, Gina Guide silver, Alison James bronze
11:10 a.m.
Woohoo! I have my first comments! Great to see people are reading. :o) Medals time for 48kg...

Bar originally sets up at 78, then 79 and finally 80 for Rachel's last clean and jerk. Rachel ends at total of 142.
10:57 a.m.
Kaysie calls for 74, then switches to 75 with 30 seconds left. No lift and she totals at 116kg. Gina will keep the 75 for her last attempt. She fights for it hard and it's good. Meanwhile Rachel bypasses everything and goes straight to 77kg, drops during the clean on her first try. Second is good at 77 and she laughs in relief before dropping.
10:52 a.m.
Kaysie Junco just posted 70kg snatch on her second attempt. Alison James tried to match the 70, but couldn't and finishes at a total of 121kg. Gina calls for 71, then changes to 72 for her second attempt. And it's good.
10:47 a.m.
Alison James opens at 68 snatch, but doesn't clear it. Makes a second attempt and clears it. Gina's up next at 69kg 1st attempt.
10:44 a.m.

10:27 a.m.
Jury convened on Lehman and her lift is good after all.
10:26 a.m.
Anne Lehman's up at 48kg. Looks like she's the oldest lifter here at 49. She didn't make her first two snatches, but is goingfor a third at 57kg. Meanwhile I still can't believe she's 49! Lift looked good, but two red lights meant they declared no good.
10:07 a.m.
Sorry again to all about the Webcast... there was a problem with the encoder and they're looking to have one delivered in.
9:45 a.m.
Gina Guide leads the 48kg division with her opening snatch of 53kg... second attempt at 56 fails... clears her third at 56.
Rachel Churchward is finishing out the event with an opening attempt of 57kg. Second attempt she calls for 59, then moves it up to 60 which is good.
Rachel's third attempt of 62kg is her best looking division of the day and the best of the division.
