USA Weightlifting Weekly Report: August 3-9, 2009
- Morris Returns to USOTC- USA Weightlifting is pleased to announce that long time Women's Resident Coach, Bob Morris, has agreed to return as the Interim National Coach in Colorado Springs, following the resignation of former coach Paul Fleschler. Bob brings over 45 years of weightlifting experience to the job, including seven (7) years as the Women's Resident Coach. Bob also served as an assistant coach for the 2008 Olympic Team and has trained several national champions and world team members.

- Attention ALL Rodger DeGarmo Memorial/World Team Secondary Qualifier Participants (both athletes and coaches)- Please be advised that if you are competing or coaching in the 2009 Rodger DeGarmo Memorial/World Team Secondary Qualifier, you are required to submit the following paperwork to Kara Yessie at the National Office no later than August 14, 2009:
1) Athlete Medical History Questionnaire Form
2) HIPAA Signature Form
3) Biography Form
4) Weightlifting Liability Form

and she will forward you the required documentation. Thanks in advance

- "Back to Basics" Weightlifting Clinic, by Tommy Kono. Two-time Olympic champion and coach of three Olympic Teams, Mr. Tommy Kono, has generously offered to conduct a weightlifting clinic at the OTC in Colorado Springs. The clinic will focus on getting back to the basics of weightlifting, including strategy and technique.
Two clinic dates are available on a first come, first served basis: September 23-24 and September 26-27. The registration fee for each 2-day clinic is $16 per person for facility usage only. Athletes (recommended age - 18 to 28 years old) and coaches who wish to also purchase room and board at the OTC will be charged an additional $37 per day, per person. A schedule for each 2-day course and registration information will be available shortly on the USAW website.
- Qualifying Totals for 2009 American Open in Mobile, AL - The National Office has received inquiries asking about 2009 American Open Qualifying Totals. The QT's can be found by going to http://weightlifting.teamusa.org. On the home page, click on the RESOURCES tab, then on QUALIFICATION. The American Open, to be held December 11-13, is the final national event scheduled for 2009. The entry form will be available in September.
- 2010 American Open Championships. Bid applications for the 2010 American Open are due August 15th.
- Barnes Brothers in Sports Illustrated - USA Weightlifting is pleased to announce that Darrel and Darren Barnes, both athletes with Lift For Life Gym, will be in the August 10, 2009 issue of Sports Illustrated in the Faces In The Crowd section (both the print version of the magazine and online).
